Recycled fibers were under 8% of global production in '23 and recycled polyester was only 13% of all polyester produced. With 98% of recycled polyester coming from plastic bottles rather than textile waste, this is still a linear chain that ends in the landfill. We don't love synthetics since washing them causes an absurd amount of plastic fragments (microplastics) to be released, eventually showing back up in our food chain. But if its going to be polyester, its better recycled than new in our book.
